This week marks the launch of Barrhead’s participation in the Communities in Bloom program.
Though some might think this is just an opportunity to plant appealing gardens and trim some not-so-nice looking hedges and trees, it is so much more than that.
This is a chance to beautify our beloved Barrhead. Yes, there will be gardens filled with flowers, but judging doesn’t just stop at someone’s lawn.
Is there litter in the streets? Are the back alleys and empty lots neglected and run down? What about the parks and playgrounds? The businesses downtown?
To an outsider, how does the Barrhead community look as a whole?
If one household or businesses is taking great care in their appearance, perhaps this will inspire surrounding neighbours and shops to do the same.
The Barrhead community worked hard last summer in preparation for the Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games. Now, Communities in Bloom is a chance to continue those efforts in making Barrhead the best it can be.
