Now that the Conservatives have selected their candidate, it is only a matter of time until the Fort McMurray-Athabasca byelection is called. Candidates from across the political spectrum have already begun courting constituents, and after years of a relatively MIA Member of Parliament for Athabasca, the attention is welcome.
It’s now up to area residents to make the most of all these attentive suitors. Take the time to go out to the meet-and-greets, the town halls, and makes sure every candidate knows what the local issues are. Yes, this riding will only exist for another year-and-a-half thanks to new electoral boundaries for the fall 2015 federal election. But we can make those 18 months count for Athabasca, starting now.
