In response to the two letters to the editor in the Oct. 8 Barrhead Leader, FACES (Ft. Assiniboine &Community Enhancement Society) hosted a successful forum for the four candidates from the Ft. Assiniboine/Timeu and Goose Lake/Topland areas.
The purpose of this forum was to allow maximum exposure of the candidates to the people that count (the voters), keeping the main thing the main thing. With the timing of the forum, the method of informing the candidates and the public about the forum, this put some pressure on the candidates to do the right thing. Kind of a “no brainer” I call it – that is to be in front of your voters, to help them make an informed decision or to find out who would make the best councillor. Some of the candidates did well with this test of character and some did not.
I explained how FACES compiled four questions and had these e-mailed to the candidates the Friday before the forum to give each one time to think about the questions and the two minute time allotted to answer them. After this part of the forum, the floor was opened for questions from the public with the same two minute time allotment. With 50 plus attending it is amazing what FACES and the public learned about the candidates.
Thanks to the mayor and councillors and council candidates for making this a success.
