Dear Editor,
I would like to correct an error that was reported in a recent Barrhead Leader article.
July 17, 2012 Page 4A, second column
The article stipulates a large, beautifully carved altar donated by Clark Lumber Yard in Edmonton, in memory of Edith Clark (Emsley).
As an employee in the W.H. Clark Lumber Company Limited accounting department and one of four company directors, I assure you this is not accurate! My Mother (Edith Clark, nee Emslie) diligently saved to purchase this oak carved altar and place it in the former All Saints Anglican Church, Belvedere in memory of her parents Major John Emslie and his wife Mrs. Agnes Emslie.
Under no circumstances whatever did Clark Lumber ever donate church furniture to any church, never mind donating one in memory of a shareholder of the company!
This church is now correctly a “Belvedere Community Church.” Each member should know the correct history of the altar and who it was donated in memory of.
Yours truly,
Nan Morrison, Edmonton
