Community, by its very definition, means that we live together, and not alone.
There’s a reason why, throughout human history, people have banded together to create communities, be they villages, cities, countries or empires. We are not meant to live our lives shut off from other people. It’s human nature to care for and share with others.
But life moves so fast, and our personal schedules can become so busy, that we often forget to think about the people around us. We see the community everywhere we go, but in our minds, it can be ‘us against the world’. Sometimes even those with the best of intentions forget to think about others. And sometimes it takes bad news to make us remember.
The news that 41-year-old Rhonda Cardinal has been reported missing from the Calling Lake area is one such reminder. If you know Ms. Cardinal, this is no doubt a trying time as you hope and pray for the safe return of a loved one. If you don’t, you need only imagine how you would feel if someone close to you was missing.
Everyone matters to somebody, which is why we should all be hoping for Ms. Cardinal’s safe return and providing whatever help we can to facilitate it.
