School’s out for summer, and for this year’s Grade 12 students high school is out forever.
Graduation is not only a time for these young men and women to look to the future and the possibilities it holds, but a chance to reflect on their experiences over the last 12 years and thank those who helped them along the way.
Thank-yous are in order for the parents, teachers, secretaries, janitors, bus drivers, school board trustees, and countless others who each touched the lives of many graduates that are spreading their wings.
Barrhead Composite High School’s valedictorian Alex Filbert gave many thanks at the graduation ceremony last Friday to all the members of the community that made getting to graduation day possible.
“Every word of encouragement or small act of kindness has not been to no avail,” said Filbert. “In fact, I don’t know how many of us would be here if it had not been for your backing.”
Now these younger years of guidance are over, and it’s time for each student to step into the real world. As Filbert so wisely said, the time has come for he and his fellow graduates to forge their own path as they head out into the world.
“Our parents and teachers may have lit our lanterns, but we must be the ones to venture out into the dark,” said Filbert. “Accomplishment will not come to us. We must set out to find it.”
Hats off to this year’s high school graduates as they begin another chapter of their lives.
