County lacks foresight

Dear Editor,

It was with extreme disappointment that I read in the Barrhead Leader that a) the Dunstable lagoon is virtually full to capacity, and b) because of the new “deal,” Barrhead County users of the Lac Ste. Anne lagoon will be forced to pay an additional $12 per load.

Regarding the current state of Dunstable lagoon, it must be asked of county officials why the current lagoon has not yet been expanded? Our County claims to foster a large tax base (residential, recreational and commercial) in this area, yet has not planned for something as basic as residential sewage needs. One only needs to travel a few roads in the Lac La Nonne area to see a multitude of new subdivisions and residences. How was all this development approved with no provision for current and future sewage needs? Or, perhaps, was the thinking by those responsible such that the County will simply put a surcharge on already over-taxed residents, many of whom are pensioners or on a fixed income?

Another question I have is whether currently Lac Ste. Anne County residents pay $12 per load to use the Dunstable lagoon?

Simply put, I believe those County employees and/or elected politicians responsible for this situation are either cash grabbing from the residents, or willfully taking advantage of residents’ good nature, or both.

One more question: Do I receive a $144 reduction in my property taxes this year to compensate for our County’s lack of foresight?
