Democracy threatened in Canada

Dear Editor, In reply to your comments about the Lords Prayer being taken out of three schools in the Pembina Hills Public Schools, I would like to ask the community one question.

Dear Editor,

In reply to your comments about the Lords Prayer being taken out of three schools in the Pembina Hills Public Schools, I would like to ask the community one question.

Do you want to be living in a democratic country?

The definition of a democratic society is:

1. A form of government in which political power resides in all the people and is exercised by them directly, or is given to elected representatives.

2. Majority rule.

This is not a legal matter, nor a religious matter. No commendation should be given to any person or group, who wants to destroy the freedom we have here in Canada. When 30 out of 33 people vote for something, it should be a closed matter based on democracy. When you decide not to participate with a group of individuals, that is your choice. The group are not excluding you, however you are choosing to exclude yourself, which is your right to do so. If you cannot find a compromise with the school board, I suggest you look for alternatives to your child’s education.

Should you agree with this letter, please e-mail, write or phone the school board. Tell them you want the Lords Prayer reinstated in all three schools because that is what the majority voted for. Whether or not you have children in school, or not this is democracy that we are fighting for. You pay school taxes, and voted the school board in.

We need to take a stand if we want our children and grand children to live in a free country.

Just a little information, the law in Alberta states that school boards have the right to decide if prayer is said in school, or not. All three schools voted as well as the school board voted to keep the prayer in the schools. Obviously, the Alberta Human Rights think they are above the law or the matter would not have came this far.

Sincerely,

Lorraine Mahe
