I have always had a soft spot for animals, and after hearing the story of Kai, a Shar-Pei mix who was abandoned in a railway Station in Scotland on January 2, I was extremely pleased to hear of ResQwalk.
The app is simple, but does so much, in raising funds and awareness of local animal rescue societies.
Being a dog owner, I could never imagine leaving my beagle sitting out in the cold, alone.
Although there have been moments when Copper has left me speechless with his reckless puppy acts, he is still a big part of the family.
The story of Kai is touching. A woman and her daughter meet a man at a train station after replying to an ad selling the dog. The mother and daughter leave a deposit for Kai, and take him for a short walk, only to return and find the pervious owner missing. The mother was unsure as to whether or not they wanted to keep the dog, and was in a hurry to get her asthmatic daughter home, so she left Kai at the train station with his suitcase full of toys and treats by his side.
No one likes hearing or seeing dogs abandoned by their owners, but that is one of the many reasons why animal rescues are so important for communities. However, in order for them to last, they need the help of volunteers and donations, and ResQwalk is one way I will be lending a hand.
The Barrhead Animal Rescue Society (BARS) has registered for the app, and because of it, I will be seen trudging through the snow on a daily basis being tugged by my beloved beagle Copper.
I recommend that anyone with an i-phone or android downloads the app, and takes their pooch for a walk, if not daily than as often as possible, after all, every step counts.
