Dear Editor,
Oct. 7 is a very important day for everyone in the town and county as the outcome will affect each and everyone of us directly as either your taxes or your rent will ge going up.
Just the cost of the borrowing bylaw will be $60 - $100 per $100,000 assessment as things sit now. This will not include cost over runs or maintenance of this project. According to people we have talked to some will be paying $150 where others will be paying $1,000 or more. People who own a business are paying twice (on their business and their residence). Farmers, who are already suffering from an agricultural disaster will be paying on multiple quarters.
There are a lot of people on fixed incomes in this area struggling to make ends meet. The country is in a recession. This project is far too extravagant for the time and area. We need a pool but it must be one we can afford. Also, we are fortunate at this time that interest rates are low but we must remember this is not a short-term project. Economists are warning people not to incur heavy debt as interest rates will be going up in the future. This must be a major concern as it will also affect what we will be paying.
Please vote on this plebiscite, not only how it will affect you, but everyone in this community. We could go back to the drawing board and build a pool we can afford. Consider all the repercussions, present and future, of this pool.
This is our opinion.
