FOIP is a joke: writer

Dear Editor,

Back in the April 5, 2011 Barrhead Leader on the front page, (Pembina Hills School Division Supt. Egbert) Stang stated that he believes there is not sufficient evidence that this issue is a matter of public interest.

This was an insult to me. After reading his letter in the April 19, 2011 Barrhead Leader, I feel the need to express my outrage.

Everybody wants to hide behind FOIP(Freedom of Information Act and Protection of Privacy Act). These acts are a joke; they protect the bad deeds of people in power. Good, hard-working, honest people don’t care if their name is in the public, or at the very least available for public knowledge.

The fact that it’s taxpayer money that pays his salary is justification enough for me that the public deserves to know what happened.

In my opinion, FOIP is nothing more than a means for people to get away with criminal/unethical activity.

It’s very sad to me to know that the top dogs all protect each other, not what is good and honest in the system. I wonder, if the employee under scrutiny was a teacher, program assistant or office staff, would the school board be so quick to protect them?

I would like to thank the Westlock News for forging ahead to find out the truth and make it public. I believe there are many people who want to know the truth.
