Fresh faces on council bode well

Mayor Roger Morrill has noted that we’ve lost a total of 61 years of experience from the previous council to the one that was elected last Monday. However, Morrill also rightly noted that the enthusiasm that springs forth from new councillors may more than make up for that inexperience.

Several of the new councillors have affirmed that they don’t view inexperience as a disadvantage. Some have acknowledged that they will look to the seasoned mayor and the town’s chief administrative officer for guidance. Their humility is commendable; however, we remind them that voters chose them for their own ideas and merits, not for their malleability. The line between being teachable and being tractable must be drawn early on. If it is not crossed, new blood on council will live up to its promise.
