Dear Editor,

This February will be 15 years of business for Vince’s Gym. I do have to say we have built a great business and have a great cliental that we appreciate and do our best to help. We also give the best equipment within our means. I’ve probably heard a thousand times from people out of town how lucky we are to have such a great facility. Yes, I am tooting my own horn, and rightfully so, as we have worked very hard in helping others, training ourselves and living a healthy lifestyle.

Of course everyone knows we started at a very young age, I was 26 to be exact. Through the years I have always had another job and sometimes two. So needless to say we have worked our butts off. I run my business the best that I can and obviously have learned through the years. We have spent countless hours helping people with training and nutrition and we love it. We knew before we built that we wouldn’t get rich in Barrhead and would have to own a gym just because we love it. It is our passion.

So, now to address a few issues. First, there will always be people with jealousy, who criticize and blame others for their ignorance, laziness and shortcomings. Through the years I’ve heard every excuse why people can’t get fit and healthy. For those from the outside looking in the gym and only see “pretty people” and don’t think that everyone has a story or struggles, well I feel sorry for you. In fact, most know that I have had severe back problems my whole life but like lots of others, I have overcome and worked through. So while some people will bash, feel sorry for themselves and never change, us at Vince’s Gym will continue to rise up, work hard and continue to succeed all while inspiring and helping many, many others of all shapes, sizes and ages do the same.

Second issue I have is the way this whole “fitness void” was handled. I want to first thank the town council who made the obvious choice and said no to the town competing with any local business. I’m sure now even the fitness classes will be moved over to Expressions Fitness Studio. I have no problem with competition just with the town using my own tax money towards something that is certainly not needed, not make any money and surely fail. So I’m hoping now the council will put the reins on some of their staff as in the past months many toes were stepped on. I don’t think the town needs any more bad publicity and certainly cannot afford to lose any more groups, businesses or families.

So, I guess what I am saying is the town and locals should be very happy with the amount and quality of private fitness that is here and should be supporting it any way possible because most towns twice the size don’t have the quality, dedication or knowledge.

Yours truly, business owner, developer

and lifetime resident,

Vincent Wiese
