O Canada! Our home and native land.
Although many people don’t claim Canada as their native land, having been born elsewhere and moved here at some point in their lives, they or their families consciously made the choice to move here.
The question to be asked of them is “Why?”
What is it about Canada that causes people to come here instead of any number of other countries around the globe?
While it’s impossible to know what is going on in anyone’s mind, there are many things about this great country that could cause someone to move here.
We have stunning, natural vistas very few places in the world have. Not many countries can boast spectacular mountains right beside prairies with enough arable land to feed millions.
Not to mention the ability to visit three different oceans without leaving one’s homeland.
Canada, on the whole, is one of the safest countries in the world. We are politically stable, and as such we are not prone to violent riots when our governments don’t act in the way we would like. Yes, we may protest, but it is mostly peaceful and people are very rarely injured, let alone killed.
Culturally, we are distinct in how much we tend to eschew homogenization and instead embrace the traditions of new Canadians instead of forcing them to adapt to the prevailing Canadian ethos.
Another benefit to the cultural mosaic of Canada compared to nations where a melting pot is more prevalent is how different cultures living side by side inevitably have a positive impact on each other.
There are myriad other reasons why Canada is often chosen as the perfect place to move to when leaving one’s home country.
We have many large cities with any and all the amenities anyone could want, but we also have countless hectares of rural land for those who need or want a little more space.
So, while Canada Day is still fresh in our memories, take advantage of all this country has to offer. Go for a hike through our provincial, territorial and national parks.
Go for a swim in our lakes.
Go visit a corner of the country you’ve never seen before.
