Happy shopping

Look at the cartoon on the right of this page. So many glum looks, so many downturned mouths, despite the plethora of purchases. And so many bodies crushed together in a tight space. It is hardly the fitting face of the season to be merry.

So many glum looks, so many downturned mouths, despite the plethora of purchases. And so many bodies crushed together in a tight space. It is hardly the fitting face of the season to be merry.

Yet anyone who has been to a city mall for Christmas shopping can surely identify with those downcast expressions. The big scramble, the stampede for latest electronic goods, the pushing and shoving, the queues, the noise, the impatience, the frayed nerves, the impersonal service ... such experiences are a seasonal tradition for many who venture to the metropolis.

What a different experience awaits anyone hunting for gifts in Barrhead. Here you get a stress-free environment, smiles aplenty and an assistant who sees you as a fellow Barrheadian, not just a customer. And that is not all. As has been said many times, shopping locally means you are doing your bit to help stimulate Barrhead’s economy. You are ensuring businesses can flourish and hire more people, perhaps your neighbour or a friend. Think too of the savings in time and money for gas.

We are all winners when you spend locally.
