Dear Tim,
I wanted to write you a note of support and encouragement. I’m sure that after two successive weeks of Letters to the Editor trash-talking your taste and professionalism, you’re feeling a little down. I would too.
So I want to let you know that despite the unfortunate “zombie” comment (which some would recognize as a joke from Futurama and an allusion to the current pop-culture zombie fad) your journalism is quite professional, and very enjoyable. In fact, I read and appreciate your work every Tuesday when I sit down to read the paper.
I understand how much hard work journalism entails and how easy it is to misjudge how a joke might play out in print. Additionally, I personally understand how hard it is to adjust to living in a new place, especially small-town conservative Bible-belt Alberta, as do many newcomers to our town.
So Tim, please accept an apology from the quiet majority who feel that this whole issue has been way overblown by a few religious grandstanders. Barrhead is a lovely and tolerant place, full of kind, patient and generous people who I’m sure have it in them to forgive this joke and move on.
Please forgive us our small-town ways and keep up the excellent work!
Megan Kruse
