Dear Editor,
Re: Barrhead Transportation Task Force survey
Attention: Ralph Helder, Vice Chair
I know it is past the closing date for completed surveys. Cannot be helped. The Barrhead Leader arrives here 2 or 3 weeks after the issue date. I am responding to the transportation article in the August 27, 2013 issue.
Allow me to introduce myself. I am Alberta Anhorn (nee Menshik) born in Barrhead in the hospital on Railroad Avenue which later became Charlie Wood’s Blacksmith shop. I am 84 years old, retired and live in an apartment building in Halifax with the general population.
Greyhound eliminating the Barrhead bus route, shattered any hope of my relocating to Barrhead. I’m sure there are others who would come to live there if there was adequate transportation e.g. I can’t afford cab fare to Edmonton. Westlock has a bus within the town/why not Barrhead? Presently, I can walk to the store for groceries, perhaps later I might have to rely on the bus.
I cannot comment on what your survey might contain because I am out of touch with Alberta, but I would not research health plans, etc., etc., until I knew I had a way to get around out there because I don’t drive.
I fully support transportation for Barrhead as long as the charges are reasonable. Surely no one expects free service and it is understandable the rates would be higher than they are in a place like Halifax – that is always better than no service at all.
I hope you will consider my letter as part of your survey. I wanted to add my name to the list of supporters.
Yours truly,
A. E. Anhorn, Halifax, NS
