Town of Barrhead Council/The Barrhead Leader

Dear Editor,

Subject: 4 Way Stop Sign

For the past 45 years I have been living adjacent to the corner of 46 St. and 57 Ave. From my favourite chair in the living room (in different chairs over this period of time I hasten to add) I have been monitoring the traffic at the intersection. I am very pleased that at last the RCMP will be monitoring it as well. Since the north-south (46 St.) traffic has chosen to stop only about 50 percent of the time and the major percentage of the east-west (57 Ave.) traffic averages an estimated 60-80+ kilometers per hour, I hope that for at least the study period duration a more sane approach will be used by some of the drivers. After that, without a 4 way stop sign, the racetrack on 57 Ave. once again will be open. Since I have yet to see either an RCMP or a Bylaw Officer issue any tickets for any driver offense at this intersection there is no inducement to drive sanely in this part of town. For the cost of two additional signs the Town Council may save the life of someone. As residents and taxpayers on this street have almost unanimously requested some signs maybe the Council should spend the money. If the budget is short I’ll pass the hat on our street to help them out.
