Is change coming?

There are new faces in Parks and Recreation, as well as the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre, and these two women have come with change on the brain.

There are new faces in Parks and Recreation, as well as the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre, and these two women have come with change on the brain.

Back living in Alberta for the first time in 12 years, new Parks and Recreation director Sue Keenan has brought her grand enthusiasm to our small community. More importantly, she plans on channeling her experience into benefiting the residents who use the recreation centre.

Keenan would also like to see more cooperation between the Town and County of Barrhead. During her time working in Parkland County the last time she lived in Alberta, Keenan said she successfully helped improve the relationship between Stony Plain and Spruce Grove, an accomplishment she would like to hone in Barrhead too.

Although she knows change can be a lengthy process, she is prepared to wait patiently and help when and where she can.

As for the aquatic centre, it’s obvious change is in the air with plans for a new pool in the works. But what about in the meantime?

New aquatic supervisor Deb Crossland is keen on making the best of what the current pool has available. She believes the facility hasn’t been used as much as it should be, and has plans to make that happen.

The staff at the aquatic centre are great, she said. But she wants them to be better, and hopes her encouragement can bring out both their passion for aquatics and their creativity.

Crossland also has her eye on the current programming. Eventually she wants to expand and bring in more, like a babysitting course and water polo.

Of course many will say talk is just talk. So keep an eye out Barrhead, and perhaps we will see words turn into actions.
