The Barrhead Leader would like to thank the Barrhead Agrena Society and all of the financial contributors to the Town’s new aquatic centre.
Agrena Society president Shannon Carlson says the future looks bright for Barrhead and we agree.
With another successful fundraising campaign coming to a close, we at the Leader, along with many of our residents, share in the sentiment expressed by Barrhead Agrena Society president Shannon Carlson at the Dive-In Dinner and Auction Feb. 11.
Carlson’s group’s goal of raising $1.5 million for the Town of Barrhead’s new aquatic centre is within striking distance and the editorial staff believe kudos are due to the lengthy list of contributors.
While there are too many to name in the space of one editorial, prominent donors have included the Barrhead Elks Club, the Barrhead Rotary Club, the Neerlandia Co-op, Barrhead’s Alberta Distance Learning Centre, Alberta Pipeline, the FCC, A&W, as well as substantial amounts from individuals and businesses not wishing to be named — which we can respect — and now we can add Pembina West Co-op and Servus Credit Union to the list.
Alan Cote, Pembina West Co-op general manager, says a lot of effort has gone into the project and in his opinion the pool is a fantastic structure that will help our community grow.
We could not agree more.
A joint contribution of $100,000 was donated to the Barrhead Agrena Society on behalf of them.
Kudos are deserved to all of those who have dug deep in spite of economic uncertainty, for finding the little bit extra they could do without.
Like Carlson, we cannot wait for the pool to finally open.
From the leisure pool to the lazy river, the hot tub and all of the facility’s other attractions, it will be exciting to see the finished premises.
This is a community you want to be a part of, one you can be proud of.
Spring can’t come soon enough.
