Learn about modular construction

Dear Editor,

In response to the article “Barrhead council passes new Land Use bylaw” published in the April 21st edition of the Barrhead Leader, we feel an educational process has to happen. It is clear from some of the quotes in the article that the construction of a modular home is not understood by certain parties. Modular homes are constructed using the same building codes and standards as any other home, the only difference is the location in which they are built. As a modular supplier we have provided homes to areas all over western Canada, including the cities of Edmonton, Calgary, Estevan, Fort St. John and Yellowknife, as well as numerous in our local area. Some of the homes were entry level “starter homes,” others were higher end modern finish executive style homes. The largest single family home to come out of our plant consisted of 4 modules that once assembled on site totaled 4258 sq. ft. We have constructed numerous multi-family apartment buildings including a 68 suite 4-level building in Bruderheim, a 16 suite 3 level building in Cold Lake, two 12-plexs right here in Barrhead and others. A comment that we consistently get from people who are visiting our plant, our show homes, or our onsite projects is that you would never be able to tell our product came from a factory. We encourage anyone who has questions about or does not understand the modular process to come visit us and tour our facility and our showhomes. Please also visit our website to see our current model offering at www.northplex.ca to see just what a modular construction is all about.

Sincerely on behalf of the Northplex management team,

Albert VanRaalte
