Let 's get the pool built!

Dear Editor,

Congratulations to Barrhead Town Council for being true leaders and visionaries for the future of Barrhead! To quote Mayor Gerry St.Pierre, “…recreation is no longer considered a soft service.” This speaks volumes for the potential to reinvent Barrhead as a vibrant community, on the move, which values people of ALL ages and stages.

Kudos to Sue Keenan and her team for sprucing up the Agrena. And kudos to the Agrena Society of a decade ago that stuck with their vision and didn’t think small and insisted on including features that are very much used; aka the walking/running track.

Let’s move on folks! Let’s get this pool built in a manner that builds for the future. Let us have faith in our future generations that they CAN and WILL manage financially. Let it be known that Barrhead is open for business and open for growth, to attract and retain citizens from blue collar to professional, from young families to retirees.

And now I issue a challenge: my little store and business that is but five and a half years old, has produced about $15,000 in contributions to the new pool with fundraisers and Festival of Trees designated purchases. This represents a significant portion of income; if every registered business in the town and county of Barrhead gave at the same percentage, this pool would be paid for lickity split!

I challenge ALL to give, not just a token amount but from a heart that believes and supports this fine community in which we live. Remember “there is never a Brinks Van following the hearse.” Consider your donation a legacy you are leaving for your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren today. And if your family has moved away, maybe they will want to move back as Barrhead becomes “a happening place!”

Sincerely,

Rita Lyster, Rita`s Apothecary &Home Healthcare Ltd.
