Let us resolve to pull together

We have entered the period of New Year’s resolutions. Psychologically this is a good time to begin improving our lives. There is a sense of rebirth everywhere, a feeling of a fresh start.

We have entered the period of New Year’s resolutions. Psychologically this is a good time to begin improving our lives. There is a sense of rebirth everywhere, a feeling of a fresh start.

While it is all too easy to make well-meaning promises – losing weight, spending more time with loved ones, learning a foreign language – shaking off old habits can be depressingly difficult. Come spring and all those worthy commitments have fallen by the wayside.

In Barrhead’s case, the resolution must be to stay united in face of the formidable challenges confronting us in 2014. One of the main challenges is the aquatic centre project, which is in danger of polarizing the community. It is incumbent on our leaders, therefore, to use the language of unity, to respect and listen to opposing views, to find creative solutions and seek a middle ground that can be shared by everyone. We can ill afford to let this resolution slide.

As proven by the 55-plus Summer Games, there is little that cannot be achieved when we pull together.
