LETTERS: Albertans need to know the true cost of leaving CPP

This is in regard to Les Dunford's commentary in the Oct 24, 2023 paper regarding the Alberta Pension Plan (APP).

Albertans should not vote for APP just because they dislike Trudeau, or because he sent a nasty letter to Alberta, seriously give your head a shake. APP is serious business and should not be voted "yes" because you don't like the big boss.

I totally agree with the man named Scott who spoke up during the last town hall meeting that the APP panel had with southern Alberta, printed in CTV Calgary news and published Oct 25, 2023. The man named Scott put it bluntly to Jim Dining that Albertans should be asking the question: Why would Canada give Albertans half the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) when Alberta is only 12 per cent population of Canada.

"What Alberta says we are entitled to is irrelevant" "And if we don't have an actual number from the people who control the CPP of what we would get if we pull out, any referendum is based on a lie" "Albertans need to know the agreed upon number that Albertans will get from the CPP before we cast a ballot."

It is irrelevant who manages the fund, how the fund is invested, etc, what Albertans need to know is the agreed upon dollar value that the CPP will give Alberta? And will this dollar value sustain current seniors with what they currently receive? And will this dollar value truly decrease APP contributions for Albertans?

This is the important question, not vote "yes" to get out of CPP because we dislike Trudeau.

By the way, I am a true UCP supporter but as a voter, I and all Albertans need to ask the hard questions and get real answers, not a report that is based on "assumptions".
