“So how many more women have to get knocked down before society stands up and stops it?”
There is a video traveling across the web that is dropping jaws, opening eyes, and sending a strong message.
Potty-Mouthed Princesses Drop F-Bombs for Feminism is a video that is causing viewers to take a second look.
“Society is teaching girls that our bodies, boobs and butts, are more important than our brains” is one of the lines that several young girls dressed to the nines are saying, with a few extra twists.
For some viewers, this video is disturbing, and is sweeping the nation teaching innocent little girls that the way to get attention is by opening their mouths and saying the f word.
But beyond that there is a very strong message that the kids are trying to portray in this two and a half minute clip.
“What is more offensive, a little girl saying the f-word, or the unequal and sexist way society treats girls and women.”
The girls continue to list several words that they believe are more offensive then that appalling, jaw-dropping, f-bomb.
Pay inequality, a statistic shared in the video goes on to describe how women performing the same job as man, with the same amount of education, gets paid 23 per cent less.
“I shouldn’t need a penis to get paid” one of the younger girls says.
The girls also mention how the comment ‘be pretty’ is a compliment, but it also has a deeper meaning.
The message is that society is teaching young women around the world that what is important isn’t what is in their head, but what it looks like.
“(It) leads us to thinking, our worth comes from our waist lines,” they said, adding that their aspirations in life should not be worrying about the shape of their butts.
Now at first I thought this was absurd. Children should not be using foul language to get the attention of adults.
But then I got thinking, we have pushed them to use it to get our attention.
“Instead of cleaning these girls’ mouths out with soap, maybe society should clean up its act,” one of the adult women at the end of the video says.
Many of the viewers who commented on the video talked about how they are shocked these girls are saying the big bad f word.
According to an article, the producer said that the girls are using a bad word for a good cause, and that the statistic regarding women is apparently less shocking then the actual language in the video.
The stat says that one in every five women will be sexually assaulted by a man, with each of the young girls counting up to five, asking, “which one of us is it going to be”.
A boy is even shown wearing a dress saying that when boys make comments like “when you say you act like a girl, you are saying you think it is bad to be a girl.”
I was stunned to hear the stats myself, and after hearing what these girls had to say, I wasn’t so worried about the way they said it.
My concluding thoughts are if this is what girls need to do to get an important message heard, then we better pass around the swear jar.
