Lots to do in Barrhead

Barrhead is a small town, and its residents enjoy a different type of lifestyle than their counterparts in larger, urban centres like Edmonton. Fortunately, that style includes many different ways to get out and enjoy life.

Barrhead is a small town, and its residents enjoy a different type of lifestyle than their counterparts in larger, urban centres like Edmonton.

Fortunately, that style includes many different ways to get out and enjoy life. Contrary to what many people think there is actually quite a bit to do here in this town. No one has to travel more than 100 kilometres to Edmonton to take in a play or a movie, nor do they have to travel very far to wallow in Mother Nature’s wonders.

For the “artsy” type, Barrhead is home to so many options to fill an evening. For example, beginning this week, the Barrhead Community Theatre stages the first of its Cinderella performances at the Barrhead Composite High School. A number of talented individuals have given up many hours of their spare time to bring the production together, and for the admission price of $15, it’s sure to be a great bargain. The Barr-head Leader’s own Chris Ribau and Amy Newton will have their moment in the spotlight with the local theatre troupe.

This week also gives way to a murder mystery dinner theatre being staged by a youth group in Neerlandia. The production will put to the test the acting skills of some very community-minded youth who are looking to raise funds for a worthy cause. The Butler Did It spoofs detective characters like Father Brown, Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple. Again, cost for this production is small compared to the meal and the level of entertainment that is sure to be provided.

Then, on any given week of the month, residents are sure to find any number of artists who have on display their work. The artists in Barrhead are really quite talented, and they should take every opportunity to show off their hard work. On the weekend, two members of the Barrhead Art Club hosted an art show and exhibit, with a portion of the proceeds going to support an the Fine Arts Camp at the Barrhead Library. As well, Artist of the Month Glenice Wilson had a sampling of her work on display on April 1 at the Barrhead Art Club’s gallery.

There are plenty of events coming up that will surely provide plenty of entertainment for anyone willing to attend. The Green Expo and Trade Show is scheduled for April 15-16, where residents will be able to get insight into the latest green technology. Furthermore, Family and Community Support Services is poised to host its annual volunteer awards event, and with tickets pegged at only $5, the price can’t be beat.

All it takes is the ability to get up off the couch and find what you want to do.
