Merry Christmas

Christmas is great. It’s not great because of peace and joy to all mankind, or presents, or Santa, or turkey and sweet treats. We think Christmas is great for one simple reason.

Christmas is great. It’s not great because of peace and joy to all mankind, or presents, or Santa, or turkey and sweet treats.

We think Christmas is great for one simple reason.

In this hectic, work a day rat race that is modern life, Christmas is one of the few times, if not the only time, were we can all come together with the ones we love and take a moment to just be with them.

The next few days will be a time most of us get off from work to spend with friends and family.

We should revel in that. It’s one of the last true events that draws everyone together. Our calendars used to be full of events and celebrations like that. Harvest and solstice festivals and Easter are a few that come to mind.

Now were lucky if even Thanksgiving can bring us all together.

Sure, there are a handful of people in our community that have to go to work and keep at it. That work often involves a uniform, or some scrubs, or coveralls and a snowplow.

Those people make a sacrifice to keep us safe, or keep us alive. They do it everyday and they step up and do it again on Christmas Day.

Of course, there are some for who Christmas can be a challenging time of year.

Even with the wealth of charities and organizations looking to improve the season for the less fortunate, some people still fall through the cracks.

And that truly is a shame in one of the richest countries in the world.

But the reality is you don’t need a huge turkey, or gifts piled higher than a February snowdrift to have a great Christmas. Those things are just icing on the cake.

All that’s required for seasonal bliss and merriment is being with those who are the most important to you.

The love and embrace of family and friends is the greatest give anyone can receive and nourishes the spirit better than any meal.

So Merry Christmas to you and yours!
