Dear Editor,
In response to the comment regarding the County of Barrhead councillors drawing a line for the ski hill and the poll in this regard, I feel it would be fair for the poll to be conducted with more information. It would be unfair to compare it to the art club. While the art club is a wonderful asset to our town I just feel it is a different classification than the hill.
Misty Ridge, I believe, would be more comparable to the pool, arena or curling rink, just in a smaller different fashion. The pool building and lot are owned by the town, just like the ski hill chalet and 10 acres it sits on are owned by the county.
It is a recreational facility providing a service to the town and county residents, as are the pool, arena and curling rink.
I do not have enough knowledge on how the town recreational facilities are supported or support themselves year round and I know there are many differences. There are also a lot of comparisons to the town based recreational facilities and the county based ski hill recreation facility. I feel that more information would be helpful when people are voting on this subject. I personally love all of our recreation facilities and know the importance of recreation to a vibrant and healthy Town and County.
My opinion, as a board member of Misty Ridge, is that I see the need for financial support to keep the facility operational. It is also important for financial support for other recreation facilities in both the town and county.
