The Christmas shopping season is officially here, but for some local residents, it may already be over.

The annual Moonlight Madness event was held in Athabasca last Friday. Local businesses were open late and offered great deals in order to entice shoppers to stay local with their Christmas needs. And of course, there was also the annual parade, the beautiful fireworks display and Santa Claus himself running around town.

The streets were teeming with shoppers and revelers, proof that the event (which has served as an unofficial beginning to the Christmas season for over 20 years) is still as popular as ever.

Christmas is a great time to spend in your community, and taking care of your shopping here is a great idea that has lots of positive effects, not the least of which is strengthening the local economy.
