Now we know what it may cost to provide the new school project with the services it needs.
And, when looking at an overall construction project that will cost in the millions, a figure between $190,000 and $290,000 for sidewalks, water and sewer installation along with some road improvements should be easily undertaken.
However, tossing in the number of around $1.6 million for a possible upgrade of the sewer system puts things into a whole different ballpark.
Granted, that figure being batted around is an estimate based on the idea that the sanitary sewer system flows ‘may’ reach over-capacity when the new school comes online.
Then there is the issue of which consultants report do you believe, and whether or not the flows and the percentage capacity are really what they say they are.
All we really know is that the councils from the town and county will meet together soon to discuss the sewer issue again and that the new school will now open in 2017, one year later than what was originally planned.
That is in part due to the length of time it has taken for parties to figure out where to build it and how to pay for the servicing, as well as the fact that the land must first be transferred to either the county or the town before construction can begin.
And with winter on its way, that means another construction season disappears before shovels can get into the ground.
Well, at least the province has agreed to the extended time line to get the school built and it also provides the three parties the opportunity to get things done right the first time around.
But with a new pool and library plan still to come, this whole project isn’t free and clear of the woods yet.
