Dear Editor:
I, a grade 9 student at Covenant Canadian Reformed School in Neerlandia, am writing in regards to the soccer program in our neighbouring town of Barrhead.
I enjoy soccer myself and also love children so this year I have chosen to help out as coach. However I am very distraught about there not being enough coaches for the older kids. We have this every year. My mom comes to me and says, “you might not get to go because there are no older kid coaches for 14 and up.” Something needs to be done to rectify this problem.
Having soccer in our community has influenced a lot of people including myself when I was a kid. I was always waiting during and after school for soccer and even practiced for it. Nevertheless I still find it funny that there is always more than enough coaches for the little children and not enough for older people. Those who like soccer but don’t know much about it still can be a coach. Please consider coaching next year and help make a difference in young people’s lives.
Thank you, Wade Barendregt
