The region’s residents came together as one group to show their support for Barrhead’s Curling Club on Monday, July 21 and Tuesday, July 22, 2014.
Community members were up early on Monday as voting started for the Kraft Celebration Tour. Residents were asked to vote early and often in an effort to help Barrhead become the 2014 winner of the Kraft Celebration Tour.
There were 13 official voting stations set up across the town and all of the stations were very busy with people voting for two full days. Everywhere you went on Monday people were asking if you were voting for Barrhead. There were signs everywhere and everyone knew what needed to be done over the two days.
Town of Barrhead Mayor Gerry St. Pierre had high hopes of getting 1.5 million votes but based on the number of residents on laptops, computers, phones and tablets his expectation could be reached.
This contest demonstrated what living in a small town should be about. Small town life should be about people coming together to achieve a common goal. A community shouldn’t just come together when a tragedy strikes but when there is something positive happening like this contest.
The residents of Barrhead and Alberta have done their job and now the waiting begins. Kraft and TSN will announce the winner on August 25 but no matter what the outcome, Barrhead residents should be very proud of what they accomplished over 48 hours. People from all over the province came together to help one, small community achieve a goal and that should be the biggest victory of all.
