Dear Editor
Good morning Canada;
The actual governing people of Canada seem not to be aware of just who we are. Following is a response to one of the members of “sumofus” with hopes of enlightening you to these facts and just what PM Harper is doing with this FIPA deal. Being aware of some of the consequences of this deal should ring loud and clear as to how it will affect us – our businesses, our economy and our way of life. If you are not aware of what FIPA is you can look it up online – and if you do not have a computer, then speak to our MLA representative here, Maureen Kubinec.
As I’m a business woman (with my own business) it is important that we not allow a slew of other businesses in that could eventually force ours to close. I have just read (what is FIPA) and though similar to the Nexen deal, it is quite different. It sounds like if we allow this FIPA deal to go through we would be allowing China the open door to purchase more Canadian businesses, set up more of their own businesses here – which would ultimately force our similar businesses to close, and would allow China to develop plants here that could cause damage to our own environment (air, water and land pollutions). They could also bring in more of their own people to run these businesses causing more unemployment in Canada (more people on social assistance – and do you think the Chinese will cover these costs from their taxes???). Please tell me this is not the case/true.
I have nothing against the Chinese, but I do disagree with the way their government runs its’ country under such harsh laws (fear and discrimination of its own people, freedom is limited in many areas of business and lives – ie: restrictions on # of births per family, how the very few are filthy rich and the many poor – and the wages so low thus preventing people from gaining strength in business and economy, etc.) and the amount of crime they have in their country that could grow even greater here if this door is opened. And, why is China so interested in our country and the need to “expand their countries rapidly expanding needs?” Let them take these needs to countries that have more open land for expanding their businesses such as Africa, South America, Australia and other such countries where the need for growth and employment is needed.
As I often say to fellow friends and acquaintances – “we the people are actually the government and that those in office are but our representatives” and with this said we can take PM Harper out of office for not complying with the needs and wishes of the people. I strongly believe this, but so often I hear responses such as ‘what can we really do against such a strong party,’ ‘there’s nothing we can do so why try’ – people are so unaware of their rights and this is one area we really need to put out to the public – YES, there are things you can do when our politicians neglect to hear us or respond to our needs/desires and force us into situations we feel will not be good, profitable and safe for our country.
What do you think could happen, with this deal, if a larger population of Chinese people settled in Canada eventually with enough people to vote in a Chinese government?? Are you willing to see this happening, in the future of our country, thus living under the rule of a Chinese government??? I trust a lot of you will stand up and take notice of what could possibly happen if we allow PM Harper to sign this FIPA deal...............
I pray we can stop PM Harper from doing something we do not want, or need, that would not be beneficial to us – the Canadian people. Wishing you all all the best for a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
Maureen Erb
