Patience needed on roads

It’s safe to say we are finally free of winter’s icy grip, and its driving hazards. But that doesn’t mean we can put pedal to metal and drive without a care in the world.

It’s safe to say we are finally free of winter’s icy grip, and its driving hazards. But that doesn’t mean we can put pedal to metal and drive without a care in the world.

For the next six weeks, traffic on Highway 55 through Athabasca will be detoured onto 42 Street as work continues on the intersection project.

Everyone likes to see improvements made to local roads, providing the creation of those improvements does not interfere with their travels. It’s a conundrum construction companies are very familiar with. Nobody likes to be delayed on their daily journeys, but construction is as much a season in Canada as winter and summer, and drivers must act with patience and consideration as they share the road with the construction workers.

It’s fair to say that most accidents, whenever and wherever they take place, are caused in no small part by driver impatience. Speeding over the limit, changing lanes unsafely or driving aggressively are all symptoms of a driver who is impatient to get where he or she intends to go and does not want to be made to wait. We’ve all been that driver at some point, but we must all expect more from ourselves as we get behind the wheel this summer.

Construction or no, we are responsible for the safety of those we encounter on the road.
