Dear Editor,

As a responsible pet owner I walk my beloved pooch two to three times a day, not only for his health but also my own (and yes I pick up the dog do). I do not always like the weather, but we must keep moving. For those of you who are climate challenged or just a plain old couch potato please do not just let your dog out to do his business on his own. On a recent outing, I was walking my dog at the ball diamonds, yes it was cold and dark but we were out anyway. We were accosted by a large black dog wearing a black studded collar. Let me tell you this spoiled our walk very quickly. This is not the first time this has happened with dogs running free and will probably not be the last, I just ask that you be more responsible and not let your dog run free. This could be very costly to all involved, as vet bills do not come cheap. My dog is not aggressive but will stand his ground and has protected us both on more than one occasion.

I want to acknowledge the great pet owners out there, our pets are loyal to us as we are to them. Keep up the good work.
