Barrhead may just be one step closer to getting a new aquatic centre.
What started off as a $28 million conceptual plan has been carefully revised and reconstructed over the last four years to create a facility that will be a perfect fit for the Barrhead community.
Now Town council believes they have arrived at that plan, which totals $13.5 million. This design still remains a conceptual draft at this point, with more open houses for Town and County residents scheduled for this fall.
Planning councils may be making progress with the design, but perhaps one of the biggest issues the pool project is still facing is the $7 million to $5 million contribution difference of the Town and County. County council is holding strong to their decision of contributing up to $5 million, which leaves the Town with a difficult decision to make.
Does the Town of Barrhead meet the County at $5 million each? Do they stay at $7 million despite the agreement to pay up to this amount only if the County matches it?
The answer at this point remains unknown.
