Preborn need protection

Dear Editor, When is a person a person with rights? MP Stephen Woodworth’s Motion 312 calls for a parliamentary committee to study Canada’s 400 year old definition of a human being.

Dear Editor,

When is a person a person with rights? MP Stephen Woodworth’s Motion 312 calls for a parliamentary committee to study Canada’s 400 year old definition of a human being. The second hour of debate on this motion is scheduled for September 21st with the vote to follow September 26th. At present in Canada, a baby does not have human rights until the moment of complete birth - when his or her last tiny toe exits the mother’s birth canal. Science clearly shows us a baby is a person well before birth. Surveys also show most Canadians want protection of the preborn at some point in pregnancy (June 2012 survey by Postmedia news and Global TV, Abacus polls in 2011). Canada is the only country in the western world without any restrictions on abortion. This puts us in the company of North Korea and China, who also have no abortion legislation. We need a law to protect the preborn. Please take action, visit www.weneedalaw.ca for more information and to see what you can do to help enact legislation.

Sincerely, Jennifer Otten
