Dear Editor,
When I read the information in the Leader about the Aquatic Centre location, I was totally disgusted.
The senior baseball diamond is not a choice for the pool development. There have been many youth and men using the facility and will continue to do so over the years.
It would be such a shame to destroy something so classy to our baseball enthusiasts. Barrhead has been “envied” by many Alberta towns for this facility.
We had a first class baseball diamond, we have a first class arena and if we don’t “screw” it up, we will have a first class new Aquatic Centre. That’s all pretty awesome for a town our size, but there are not many Shannon Carlsons that are willing to give the volunteer time and commitment that he does for our community and I would suggest that communicating with him, the Ag Society and the community at large might be “rather important.”
That baseball diamond was not built overnight and took hours of volunteer time and fundraising to develop it over the years. You don’t turn around and replace it somewhere else without a lot of work and money. What does the present site cost us, a few mowings each summer. I think it is worth it for the people who use it and, over time baseball will flourish again.
The Kinsmen Club had the foresight, determination and volunteer help to make our present pool happen. To them we are ever grateful for the many years of a wonderful facility for our families. That volunteer commitment must never be forgotten.
The new arena was another example of the community coming together to build a facility that we are all very proud of.
I hope we re-think this location very seriously before turning our backs on the very community people that will make it happen.
