One can certainly understand that with the first real dump of snow comes the first barrage of complaints about the length of time it takes for the roads to be cleared.
However, there might be a bit of justification on the part of motorists in Athabasca and area.
While crews were seen (and heard) hitting the highways locally last week when the freezing rain hit, followed hours later with plenty of snow, highways near Wandering River and Boyle were left somewhat lacking and streets in Athabasca didn’t see a blade until the early morning hours of Sunday. Yet, there were some streets that had been left unplowed as late as Monday.
Granted, the highway crews must cover a vast area and town crews are limited to what they can accomplish in a certain time.
But, the job can definitely be done better and fast if only the money was willing to be spent.
Certainly the safety of the driving public would be sufficient to say, have more equipment available knowing in advance that the rain and snow were coming? Or perhaps, the current equipment could be put to better use such as plowing all the streets in one area and not just certain ones?
Clearing snow from roads is not easy, but it could be done quicker.
