Reader says people need to slow down

Dear Editor, Why is everyone in such a darn hurry? There’s no prize for who finishes first! All these new gadgets should free up time, but no, everyone is busy. You have to make an appointment to have coffee with your neighbour.

Dear Editor,

Why is everyone in such a darn hurry? There’s no prize for who finishes first!

All these new gadgets should free up time, but no, everyone is busy. You have to make an appointment to have coffee with your neighbour. Check out a movie, and notice the people in the lobby are all busy talking to someone on their phone. What is so important that they can’t do one thing at a time, like honoring the person they came with by not phoning someone else?

Christmas is a time to touch base with loved ones, but how personal is it when you type a letter, push a button and everyone you ever met gets a copy? Take the time to write a letter. It’s a gift to receive. I don’t want to hear about all the things money has brought you. Tell me how you feel. Ask me how I am and take the time to listen and care.

What’s the big hurry? We are all going to end up in the same place. Time doesn’t accumulate. Enjoy the moment. Take a breath and look around. We live in the greatest country in the world. Nobody is chasing you. Make time for yourself and for me. Once your time has run out, there’s no mulligan. You don’t get to do it over.
