Those who can, do. Those who can do more, volunteer. An anonymous quote, but one that is quite significant in this small community.
It’s no secret Barrhead prides itself on its high number of valuable community members.
They are the ones who arrive early and stay late. They are the organizers, the cookers, the cleaners, the decorators, the advisers, and the fundraisers. They are the volunteers.
With the annual volunteer appreciation night approaching, the event brings a chance to shine a light on those people who make Barrhead the enjoyable and lively community it is.
It’s a time to reflect on the 20 years Ella Stoik has been actively dedicated to contributing her time at the Barrhead Public Library, and chance to recognize the St. John’s Lutheran Youth Group for dressing up as elves for the sake of children in the community.
We can thank the Barrhead Grizzly Trail Fire and Rescue Association for not only volunteering their time to keep the community safe, but for the fundraising that makes that safety possible. We can appreciate Shannon and Carla Carlson for spearheading several projects that are highly desired in the community.
From judging competitions to running workshops, Emma van Loon’s leadership and contribution when it comes the 4-H program is worth recognizing. As is the unwavering willingness Margaret Wimmer has shown for The Senior Drop In Centre, Brookside, United Church, and Aspen Health Services, to name a few.
Dedicated and appreciated are these volunteers, and each were rightfully nominated for a reason. They put in the time when others could not, and in doing so made all the difference.
However our appreciation cannot stop there, as these willing individuals are only several representatives of the hundreds of others just like them. Take the time to appreciate the hours all volunteers put in to make Barrhead a better place for everyone.
