Museums are present day time machines.
They are a trip down memory lane into the history of people and events that helped formed the communities we live in today.
The Barrhead Museum is no different, however they are currently striving to be a place of ongoing recognition as well.
Museum volunteers are working to connect with local businesses, particularly from the 1950s and on, to honour during Senior’s Week June 2-7.
Long-time employees are also being sought out.
Anna Churchill, president of the Barrhead &District Historical Society, is eager to get the museum more involved in the community, and vice versa.
She hopes to make the museum a place of heightened interest, and why shouldn’t she?
Happenings of the past should not only remain a memory. They should be something to celebrate and revisit, time and time again.
Recognizing businesses up until the present day is a good start to connecting the past to topics of current interest.
So, merchants of Barrhead, are you ready to share your past with the community? Now is the chance to be part of a living history at the Barrhead Museum this June.
