Remember the bug spray

This is the first time I get to write the column for the Town and Country since I started working for Great West Newspapers in April. So let's get started. Often, the most fun working at a newspaper is had at sporting events around the region.

This is the first time I get to write the column for the Town and Country since I started working for Great West Newspapers in April. So let's get started.

Often, the most fun working at a newspaper is had at sporting events around the region.

Because let's face it – nothing beats watching a good old baseball or softball game when the season gets going.

I've had the pleasure of watching several over the past month, and I went to a track and field meet over in Boyle May 31. It was fun watching the kids perform, having all the fun in the world.

The track meet was one sporting event where I got off lucky, as there were no bugs around during the nicer weather. But at the softball games I went to, the bugs were pretty bad. Worse yet, I did not have any bug spray with me.

So, as I was doing interviews, and taking pictures at those games, the bugs kept coming at me and biting me. And man, did it itch after the fact. But I just kept going, taking the photos, trying not to allow my obvious disdain I had for the bugs out there become apparent. I was out there working, and I should not  be worrying about bugs. But they certainly can be a nuisance.

And so, lesson learned. When I go out on a hot and cloudy day, and when the bugs are bad, bring a can of bug spray. Take it from me, that can really come in handy.
