Rich Valley fair July 20-21

Dear Editor,

Over the past several years the Rich Valley Agricultural Society has successfully maintained community involvement by continuing to offer activities and produce successful events. 2011 saw the creation of the annual Spring Fling Steak Supper. This event was very successful and sold out almost immediately in 2012. Throughout the winter increased ice rentals kept the ice plant humming and the return of “scones” to the concession was a huge success. This spring we saw increases in both participation and volunteer support for our many sporting activities. Thank you to those who helped make this possible.

This year we moved our annual Agricultural Fair to July 20-21, 2012. The change in date was to reduce conflict with all of the other fantastic events going on in our area. In 2012 the fair will see the return of Gymkhana and Ranch Roping, in addition to our regular fair events: Heavy Horse Pull, Beef Show, Bench Show, Trade Fair, Light Horse Show and Driving Show. Following our free annual pancake breakfast take in the live square dancing and arm wrestling demonstrations, participation welcomed. On Saturday, in addition to a scheduled Kids Bingo, there will be activities available for children to participate in throughout the day. These will include face painting, climbing wall, 32ft obstacle course, bouncy house, and the ZOO 2 U (exotic animal show).

Saturday evening we are having a delicious roast beef dinner and dessert auction followed by Lisa Hewitt’s “Classic Country Road Show”. Please check out our Rich Valley Agricultural Society’s Facebook page or website www.richvalleyag.webs.com to view our fair book or pick up a copy at UFA locations in Barrhead, Mayerthorpe, or Onoway. Tickets for Saturday night can also be purchased for $30/person at these locations.

Over the years due to increased access and mobility to other venues we have seen participation decrease. We are optimistic that by changing to suit our community’s needs we will be able to successfully move with the times and revitalize the Rich Valley Agriplex.
