Rodeo Drive is the pits, literally

Some of the roads around here aren’t in the greatest shape.

Some of the roads around here aren’t in the greatest shape.

I imagine most of you would agree with me that there are a few dirt roads in the county, and at least one industrial section road within the Town of Barrhead, that are in sore need of repair.

If you don’t believe it, take a drive.

That being said, most of you no doubt are aware that public works, especially in the county have a lot of work on their hands undoing all of the damage that Mother Nature inflicted with the recent rainy weather.

However, driving your own vehicle down a road and feeling the asphalt tear at your oil pan, exhaust pipe and bumpers, listening to the metal scream as the car bottoms out, that’s a source of irritation for me.

After all, I pay my taxes.

That being said, have any of you driven down Rodeo Drive recently?

Part of the reason for the issue on that road, I assume, is because of the ongoing construction of the Town of Barrhead’s Regional Aquatics Centre.

However, I have spoken with a number of residents in the area and tend to share the sentiment that more priority needs to be placed on these damaged surfaces.

I can only imagine what it’s like being a patient inside an ambulance that drives down that road, sirens blaring, lights flashing.

I understand while construction is going on, there is a lot more heavy equipment traffic there than there would normally be, despite it being part of the industrial section of the town.

That being said, I cringe whenever I have to drive down there to cover events and have often parked a lot farther away than should be necessary to avoid it.

I used to shudder at the thought of driving from Clarenville to Bona Vista in Newfoundland but now I look back on that pot-hole strewn stretch of paved highway as a stroll through heaven compared to the ruts I’ve seen around here.

Road projects may not be as palatable as a new pool but they have to be more appealing than dealing with the million-dollar revamp of the water system town council is facing in the near future.

Best get on with it then eh?

Roads and water systems are actually pretty integral to the success and prosperity of a community and in my opinion, both are just as important, if not more, than any pool.
