Safe and secure

There are many people in the world who do a lot of bad things. Whether or not they are caught doing their heinous deeds, it does not negate the fact their crimes leave in its wake a trail of victims.

There are many people in the world who do a lot of bad things.

Whether or not they are caught doing their heinous deeds, it does not negate the fact their crimes leave in its wake a trail of victims. There are varying degrees of crime, and none of them are acceptable.

The unfortunate reality is there will always be people who take joy in preying on others who are weaker. There is a great deal of abuse suffered by women and men at the hands of people they claim are ‘loved ones.’ But, that begs the question that who can actually love another person who physically harms them?

It doesn’t matter where you go, physical abuse has a presence, even here in Barrhead. Enter shelters like Sparrow’s Hope and its crew of caring and compassionate people who are poised to take women out of those abusive scenarios and place them in a safe and secure environment.

Ben Kellert of Sparrow’s Hope said the shelter would be open very soon, if not already. A lot of work has gone into making the shelter a safe haven for women suffering abuse at the hands of someone else. The idea is to provide an escape and a temporary home so these women can start making the needed changes in their lives that will ultimately lead to a better life. The goal is to take them away from those abusive relationships and get them the help they need.

That being said, the shelter also needs help. There are still many things left to purchase to help these women overcome those obstacles. The adage goes it takes a village to raise a child. The same can be said of women who have nowhere else to turn in their time of greatest need. Becoming a resident at a shelter of this type isn’t something these women wish upon themselves. Circumstances, and not for the good, lead them to the shelter.

Abuse often is a silent crime, and it takes a lot of courage for these women to actually say enough is enough. That courage should be rewarded by providing a shelter that is welcoming, warm and safe. Imagine yourself in a position where the only two options you have are to continue being the victim of abuse, or to flee the situation and seek refuge among people who care in a place that is meant for women facing the same life. The choice becomes quite obvious, and that’s why Sparrow’s Hope needs the support of all residents of Barrhead.
