Simple things

We’ve all heard the saying, “It’s the simple things.” The simple things that bring us happiness and lead us to appreciate what life has to give. Big events such as the Volunteer Appreciation Night are important to recognize.

We’ve all heard the saying, “It’s the simple things.” The simple things that bring us happiness and lead us to appreciate what life has to give.

Big events such as the Volunteer Appreciation Night are important to recognize. The hard efforts given by everyone who helped organize the night, and the volunteers themselves, are reason for applause. Then there’s the big news that brings much excitement to the community. Neerlandia just got word of plans for a new school, a shock to Pembina Hills that they welcomed with open arms.

Both the volunteer night and good news in the education world are big and should be heard loud and clear. But what of the smaller things?

It’s all too easy to lose sight of them.

In a fast-paced lifestyle it can be hard to stop and smell the roses. Especially if you find yourself living in rural Alberta where the roses are still covered in snow just before the start of May.

The Hillcrest Art Club knows how to find joy in the simple things. The stroke of a paintbrush, the vibrancy of colour, the peaceful feeling that comes with spending one hour each week fully consumed by the canvas in front of them.

The club will be showing their work at the Barrhead Art Club in the hopes others might find that same joy in observing their pieces.

Though the weather may still be preventing real roses perhaps, like members of the Hillcrest Art Club, we can all find joy in a painted one.
