If you have something to say about a potential highway bypass around Athabasca, now’s your chance to be heard.
Alberta Transportation plans to hold an open house on Oct. 18 to discuss the project, designed to lessen the amount of truck traffic that comes through Athabasca each day. The route they’re currently looking at is between Highway 812 and Highway 827 and from Highway 63 north.
At a recent appearance at Athabasca town council, representatives of Alberta Transportation acknowledged that the members of the community know the area and its needs better than they do, so they will offer them the chance to have their say on the project and share their thoughts and what will and won’t work as it moves forward.
When it comes to big money government projects like these, the average member of the community can sometimes feel like their voice will either be ignored by decision makers or simply lost in the din of thousands of others who want to speak their minds. That’s why it’s so important that those who want to have their say on this issue attend this meeting and speak up. It’s likely to be the best chance you have to influence the decision making of this project and speak directly to Alberta Transportation.
It’s been said that if you don’t vote in an election, you can’t rightfully complain when you’re unhappy with the winner. Similarly, if you have an opinion on this potential bypass but don’t make the effort to attend the meeting and speak out, you can’t say you weren’t given the chance.
