At long last, spring might finally be here to stay.
Our region was ‘gifted’ with a rather long and powerful winter this year, with no shortage of snow being dumped on us. Even last week, after a few days of warm weather, the snow returned, winter clearly being unwilling to go without a fight.
But with the days getting warmer and temperatures soaring into the twenties, it’s hopefully time to turn the page on snow and ice and enjoy the warmer seasons.
Of course, in some ways that simply means exchanging one aggravation for another.
Snow and ice and dangerous road conditions may be gone, but they will soon be replaced with construction, a season all to itself in Canada.
It remains to be seen how much work will be done on local roads this year, though to the north the aggressive twinning of Highway 63 will continue unabated.
What is less uncertain is the wealth of opportunities that await residents and visitors now that the warm weather has descended on this area. Just like in winter, there are no shortage of ways to get active during the spring and summer. And, just like in winter, the natural landscape lends itself perfectly to the seasons to come. From the Athabasca River to the rolling hills and extensive trail network, the beauty of nature is on full display in the spring and summer.
It took a while to get here, but spring has arrived.
