Dear Editor;
2013 has come and gone and I don’t want to let 2014 get too far ahead of me before thanking my fellow citizens and neighbours for their support over the past 21 years, both at the polls and on the street. I have been a part of this community now for 27 years (come this January 15) and in all that time I have felt welcomed and a true participant in our communal day-to-day life.
I want to thank the people of Barrhead Town and County who have volounteered, worked on many a committee and involved themselves with a huge variety of other community organizations for their time and effort. It all comes from moments that could have been spent with loved ones and friends or sitting in a comfortable chair in the living room.
It isn’t always easy to get off the couch for an evening or leave the table after a nice supper and head out the door because there are meetings to attend, floats to decorate or phone calls to make.
Together, whether at work or play, we are creating a place to live that can take pride in itself, in past accomplishments and in a vision for the future.
Unlike other communities our size, Barrhead is thriving, slowly gaining ground and continuing to solve municipal problems in creative ways.
We need pragmatic doers but also dreamers. We need to continue showing respect for our past and also continue to take inventive and courageous steps into the future. Past Councils have done good work and our current Mayor Gerry and his Council need your input and support. Bring them your concerns but also your ideas and suggestions.
With a respectful give and take, our town and county community can continue to take advantage of the very best that life in this country has to offer.
Understand that your tax dollars are well used, stretched to the maximum, and that projects, like a new pool, are a part of that activity. Have faith in the future and our collective ability to make this future a reality.
Thank you again; with respect,
Madelaine Wessel
